Parktown at a glance

The Parktown commercial node was one of the first decentralized areas to develop out of Johannesburg CBD.

Originally established as a residential suburb in the 1890's, Parktown, North of Johannesburg CBD, is now home to many corporate enterprises and organisations, schools, hospitals, churches and restaurants, whilst still maintaining a number of quiet residential areas.

Many buildings in Parktown are built in the historic Victorian style and feature Oregon pine floors, pressed steel ceilings and lead glass windows.

Parktown has a total of 12 schools, of which Parktown Boys High and Helpmekaar College is most well-known.

It is also home to three of the five University of Witwatersrand campuses, which include the education campus, medical school and Wits Business School.
